Titre: Examining the Integration of Supplementary Materials in EFL Classroom: Case of Doctor Benzerdjeb Secondary School

Résumé: Due to technological advancement resulted from the globalization process, English language instruction witnesses the use of well-developed combination between authentic and multimedia materials as supplementary materials to EFL teaching. This study examines the use of supplementary materials in EFL secondary school by teachers and its impacts on students’ motivation and engagement. Also, it examines the numerous obstacles that teachers face in such process. This investigation was designed based on an exploratory case study and experimental research design relying on two research instruments for data collection, a teachers’ questionnaire addressed to EFL secondary school teachers of Tlemcen and a quasi-experiment on 1st year students of Doctor Benzerdjeb secondary school. Moreover, the data gathered were analyzed qualitatively and quantitatively. The findings indicated that teachers currently rely on using supplementary materials in their teaching and including them into their lesson plan. Also, supplementary materials have an effective impact upon students in terms of increasing their motivation and engagement. In addition, the last creates obstacles for instructors such as time constraints, classroom management, lack of materials, crowdedclasses and lack of teachers’ training regarding the use of ICTs and other onlineauthentic materials. Lastly, the research includes some suggestions and recommendations regarding the successful use of such materials as teachers’professional development, classroom equipment and materials development.
