dc.description.abstract | This thesis deals with the Civil Rights Movement from the point of view of its most important years from 1955 to 1965.It explains every special episode that occurred in the United States during this period. The years of resistance, along with the struggle against segregation pervaded much of American history. Whites were masters who governed and determined the lives of American citizens. Blacks were considered inferior, unequal and were held at the bottom of society. The first chapter of this thesis provides an account of the Civil Rights Movement, and introduces the means that the movement applied such as boycotts, sit-ins, freedom rides and marches; whereas the second chapter analyses the movement and shows how black leaders surmounted obstacles of white mobs and got into it within peaceful outlets that contributed to the black self-awareness, and improvement of their social position; the thesis concludes with the years 1964 and 1965 when the Civil and Voting Rights Acts were approved. | en_US |
