Résumé: In recent years, there has been an increased interest in molecules of natural origin that have shown antibacterial and antioxidant properties on aromatic extracts and essential oils. Xanthiums are herbaceous annuals, belonging to the family Asteraceae, known for their use in traditional medicine, their activities have been confirmed in the treatment of several diseases The results show that the plant is of great importance, it is rich in phenolic compounds. The DPPH test shows that the essential oil of the leaves of Xanthium strumarium and the hydrolate extract of the aerial part have an antioxidant capacity respectively (IC 50 0.405 and 0.668 mg / mL) higher than that of the BHT, but lower than that ascorbic acid. ethanolic and aqueous extract have an excellent antioxidant activity superior to that of ascorbic acid.
