Résumé: | The present work deals with the study of air pollution at Frantz Fanon region in Algiers center by total suspended particulates TSP, particulates matters (PM10, PM2.5) and metallic trace elements associated with them (ETM) (Fe, Mn, Pb, Co, Ni, Cr, Cd, Zn, Cu……..), using the technique of X-ray fluorescence spectroscopy (XRF) for the analysis of environmental samples, during the period from January to December 2009. A Gent low-volume air sampler (LVS) was used to collect the particles. The results show higher levels for TSP; PM10 and PM2.5 during the summer period. Concentrations of some metals (Cr, Ni, Co, Cd) are much higher than standards, mainly due to weather conditions and heavy road traffic which is responsible for most of the air pollutants, much more than other sources of emissions, thus contributing to the deterioration of air quality. Principal components analysis (ACP) and enrichments factors were used to identify the main sources of air pollutants in the region. The trajectories and retro-trajectory were calculated using the HYSPLIT model to characterize the origin of the air masses. |
